Description:Nelson Winkel harvests Maximilian sunflower seeds by hand. The mechanical harvesters have been helpful for getting big patches of seed from some grasses, sedges, and a few forbs. However, a recent grant from the Nebraska Environmental Trust, via the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, made it possible for us to purchase a new mechanical seed harvester. Here, Nelson is harvesting grass seed with a mechanical seed stripper borrowed from Prairie Plains Resource Institute.
